Search Engine Optimization audits, when done properly, are in-depth reviews of websites to determine what changes can be made to improve the page rankings in organic web searches. When you are looking for a digital agency to conduct an audit for your site, you will want to make sure the analysis conducted goes deeper than the surface.
In audits conducted by our agency, we have discovered a range of issues hindering people’s efforts to find our client’s websites. Some had legacy sites with outdated SEO strategies. Google is continually updating its algorithm, so routine and regular SEO audits are important.
Some had built their websites on platforms that were easy to use, but the internal processes hampered their search results. Some of the online SEO audit tools failed to correctly identify the issues for one client. When you are looking for an SEO consultant, it is important to make sure the specialist will do a deep crawl.
During the technical review, your SEO consultant will create a report covering a variety of topics, including:
- Google Analytics
- Site Security
- Proper Schema
- Page Titles
- Images missing ALT text
- Meta Descriptions
- Character lengths of various elements (yes, this stuff can be hurting your site)
- And, so much more.
The report spell out where your website is following best practices, and where it is not, there should be recommendations on how to improve your website’s operations. Keep in mind, websites are very complex systems. It takes a different set of skills to conceptually design a website, to implement a design and built the site out, to maintaining the site, to making sure it is optimized for web searches. Very few people can do all things well.
This is why in your report, your SEO consultant might have recommendations to get a web developer involved to fix some issues. The SEO consultant or the agency might be able to address other issues. These tend to be additional costs beyond an audit, unless there is language in an agreement.
How much does an SEO audit cost? They are not cheap. As you can imagine, the length of time required to conduct an in-depth SEO audit will vary from site to site. One client had a mere 11 pages, and the audit was completed within a few hours. Another had more than 500 URLs on the site (a very active blogger), and it required more than 10 hours.
Some audits are done on a per project price, while others are billed by the hour. Independent SEO specialists/consultants start around $50-$100 per hour. An agency might charge $150-$200+ per hour.
At Navigate SEO, we are not the cheapest, but we are not the most expensive, either. We conduct technical, in-depth SEO audits. Find out if we are right for you.
